Welcome to the BigWoods

Our packages are all-inclusive, including transportation to and from stands, meals, lodging, quartered animals or picked birds and duck guides, decoys and championship-caliber retrievers. Our deer herd has been under intensive management for over 15 years, sporting a 1/1 doe/buck ratio and benefit from extensive cultivated food plots, producing Boone & Crockett and Pope & Young trophy bucks as, again, there are no high fences here.Wild boar hunting is done generally using stands and corn feeders. Our hunter success rate for these free-range animals is ~ 90%. Pigs average ~ 125 lbs, with our biggest ever weighing in _ 465 lbs.Ducks are hunted in flooded timber and in open marshes - planted in natural barnyard grass and pink smart weed - using pit blinds and comfortable permanent camouflaged blinds. Our guides are expert duck callers.Walk-in coolers, freezers and ice machines are on the premises. Meals: Kay Fulford, our chef, is in charge of making sure that you eat well. Non-hunting guests: May accompany hunters to the BigWoods for $67.50 / night, this includes meals and lodging.Early Arrival: Hunters who arrive in the area the day before their hunt may lodge at the Bigwoods for 50/night/person instead of staying at a motel. No meals are included, and the hunt will commence at the usual time for when it was booked. Fishing: Hunters are always welcome to bass fish during the day _ The BigWoods and keep all bass less than 3 lbs. Fish greater than 10 lbs can be kept if they are to be mounted.Shooting: A covered 40 yard to 500 yard rifle range, a reloading room, as well as a bow range, is available free of charge to guests of The BigWoods. It is strongly urged that visiting shooters use this rifle range to be sure that the rifle is still on target after making the trip to The BigWoods. We strongly recommend not shooting at running animals as well.Shooting Boar: As far as boar hunters are concerned it has been our experience that hunters have the most success bringing a small caliber center fire rifle for hogs instead of the elpehant guns we often see used in this endeavor. We strongly suggest that you attempt to make head shots on hogs; shooting at a running boar is discouraged.Predators: All predators, including mountain lions (I previously did not allow this as I think they are a cool apex predator, but the evidence is mounting that they selectively kill large bucks, which tend to stand and fight rather than run away as the other deer wisely do.), can be taken free of charge by any BigWoods hunters who has booked a buck or a boar hunt, i.e., doe hunters do not qualify for free predators.4 wheeler policy: The BigWoods is a paradise for ATV riders with over 100 miles of roads through some of the wildest places in Texas. We encourage hunters to bring their own ATVs as this affords them access to this amenity as well as giving them more independence as to when they come and go hunting. However, four-wheeling is subject to the follow BigWoods rules:1. Hunters are not allowed to drive by other hunters when the hunt is on. This is common courtesy. Our staff will always be able to tell you where all the hunters will be. If one party has exclusive reign over the BigWoods then this can be worked out amongst the hunters in your own group, otherwise check with our guides prior to setting out on your own.2. Mud dogging is not allowed. We have made a great investment in our road system here and take great pride in the quality of it so please be warned that mud doggers shall be drawn and quartered. Nuff said?Licenses: All hunters are required to have the proper licenses, purchase them here.Geese: Do not shoot the geese!Deposits: Reservations will not be confirmed until we receive the appropriate deposit.

No Limits on Hogs with only a $20 skinning fee per animal after the first hog.Deluxe Weekend Boar Hunts:Deluxe Hog hunts $545 per Person: Check in is 1PM Friday. Check out is noon Sunday. This includes meals, lodging, and quartering of the hog. The hunters will be taken to and picked up from their stands.Long Weekend Deluxe Boar Hunts:Deluxe Hog hunts $655 per Person: Check in is 1PM Thursday. Check out is noon Sunday. This includes meals, lodging, and quartering of the hog. The hunters will be taken to and picked up from their stands. Out of State Hunters Special:This year to accommodate out of state hunters who often drive a long way, we have Wed noon - Sun noon for $765, the same items included on our Deluxe Weekend Boar hunt. Guns: As far as boar hunters are concerned it has been our experience that hunters have the most success bringing a small caliber center fire rifle for hogs instead of the elpehant guns we often see used in this endeavor. We strongly suggest that you attempt to make head shots on hogs; shooting at a running boar is discouraged.Licenses: Out of state boar hunters will need to purchase a non-resident special 5 day hunting license from Texas Parks and Wildlife. This may be purchased by going online here or from the Tennessee Colony General Store which is only 7 miles from the BigWoods.Deposits: A deposit of $200 per person is required for any of the boar hunts, bookings will only be confirmed when the deposit is received. The BigWoods has been Under an Intensive Deer Management Program > 15 Years. We have a 1 to 1 buck - doe ratio. And were talking fair chase. No high fences here!2011-2012 Season: September 30 - January 29LONG WEEKEND TROPHY BUCK HUNTING PACKAGE:1. The hunts will run from Wednesday noon thru Sunday noon.2. The base fee will be $800. This includes meals, lodging, game quartering, and transportation to and from the stands3. Trophy fees are as follows: Bucks $1,200; hogs & does $100/animal. No limit, depending on available managed lands permits. 4. A hunter who purchases this package may return to hunt on weekends for $500/weekend for the rest of deer season if space is available. The usual trophy fees shall apply. REGULAR WEEKEND TROPHY BUCK HUNTING PACKAGE:1. The hunts run from Friday noon thru Sunday noon for $625, including meals, lodging, game quartering, and transportation to and from the stands.2. Trophy fees are as follows: Bucks $1,200; hogs & does $100/animal. No limit, depending on available managed lands permits.HUNT THE RUT SEASON PASS TROPHY BUCK HUNTING PACKAGE:1. Season of the rut season pass for locals within easy driving distance of the BigWoods: Get unlimited access for deer hunting during the buck rut when the big ones are moving and easiest to take, October 5, 2011 - November 20, 2011, $3,150. Includes 2 bucks, 4 does, 2 hogs. No trophy fees! PARENT/CHILD WEEKEND DOE HUNT:1. The hunts run Friday noon thru Sunday noon for $500, including meals and lodging for parent and child, game quartering, and transportation to and from the stands.2. This package includes 4 does. Extra does $100.Licenses:Hunters will need a valid Texas hunting license, however they will use BigWoods managed deer permits and will not need to use their personal tags.Deposits: A deposit of $400 per person is required for any of the buck hunts, and a deposit of $200 per person is required of the doe hunt. Bookings will only be confirmed when the deposit is received. These deposits are non-refundable not refundable, though they can be applied in full towards a future booking.

One day hunt (arrive the night prior, hunt in the AM), lodging meals, guides, dogs, decoys, processed birds $375/person. Two day hunt, same inclusions, $700/person.

PLEASE DONT SHOOT OUR LOCAL GREATER CANADAS! OUR ORIGINAL PAIR, MERTON AND MERTONETTE NOW HAVE 17 DESCENDANTS LIVING YEAR ROUND ON THE BIGWOODS. SO IF YOU DUCK HUNT, REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT GOOSE HUNTING HERE. WE ARE NOT IN ANY AIRLINES FLIGHT PATH, SO THEY ARE NOT A DANGER YET.

Summer Night Hunts and Gar Fishing Packages

This exotic package will consist of using the latest night vision equipment while hunting out of trucks. These fully guided hunts will take place from 9 PM thru midnight. All packages include meals and lodging. The price for a 2 night hunt is $750/person, 3 nights is $925/person. There will be a 2 person minimum and a 4 person maximum/group. And for a 4 person group, there is a $100/person discount, for a 3 person party, a $50/person discount. These hunts can be booked any night of the week except Sunday nights. Hunters are always welcome to bass fish during the day _ The BigWoods and keep all bass less than 3 lbs. Fish greater than 10 lbs can be kept if they are to be mounted. Adding to the hog hunt, garfishing with Garzilla Guide Service will be offered as followed: On any day of the trip, an all day airboat package will be available for $1,000/boat. Similar Jon boat packages are $750/day. Half day airboat packages are $750/trip/boat. No half day Jon boat trips available. There is a 3 person maximum capacity for airboats, 2 people for jon boats. Garfishing excursions must be booked in advance when booking the hog hunt. All day trips are 12 hours, ½ day are 6 hours. If a person wants to just garfish and not hog hunt, they may stay _ the BigWoods (which is less than 2 minutes from the boat ramp on the Trinity) for a rate of $50/night/person. No meals are included here. Hog hunting deposits of $200/person are required to hold a booking, $400/person for the hog/gar combo packages. These deposits are not refundable, though they can be applied in full towards a future booking.

The BigWoods has a striking diversity of bird species, and it is one of the best places in the state to view the colorful neotropical migrants as they wade in our mashes and feed in the restored prairie. As the anchor preserve on Texas Parks and Wildlife's BigWoods birding loop, we offer packages that extend from one day to an entire week. Stay in our comfortable lodge and spend the day exploring from the many blinds on the property. We also offer golf-cart rentals at $20 a day. Packages start at $85 a day plus tax for one couple with breakfast included. Weekly packages are available for $510 plus tax. Desposits of 50% are required to hold your reservation. Dog Trials

The BigWoods is quickly becoming a bird-dog mecca, with over two-thousands acres of marshes and lakes and electric creeks that keep them full even in a drought, there is always water to test the skills of the best retrievers in the country. We have carefully constructed mounds, levees and lakes specifically designed for hunt tests. Several groups such as the Rose Country Retriever Club and Big D Hunter Retreiver Club regularly hold hunt tests at the BigWoods.
